Getting to know your Energy Clamp
The Energy Clamp is one of Chameleon’s latest products. The Energy Clamp is a wireless Zigbee 3.0-enabled sensor is ideal for measuring current draw where there is no suitable traditional metering option. In addition, the Energy Clamp is also perfect for other use cases, including:
- Anywhere with an AC single conductor cable
- Meter box or next to fuse panel
- Solar installation cables – generation or export
- EV installation cables

The batteries provided with the device have 3-5 years battery life.
Yes, you can replace the batteries provided with your Energy Clamp. When you need to replace the batteries, please use alkaline, non-rechargeable batteries only.
The flashing LED on the side of the clamp indicates that your device is trying to connect to your Zigbee 3.0 network. Once the connection is established, the light will stop flashing.
Yes, you can have multiple Energy Clamps at your property. Apart from being used for measuring current flow where there is no smart metering, the Energy Clamp is also perfect for other use cases, including:
- Anywhere with an AC single conductor cable
- Meter box or next to fuse panel
- Solar installation cables – generation or export
- EV installation cables
Monitoring the data from your Energy Clamp
The Energy Clamp is a Zigbee 3.0 sensor that can be integrated with Zigbee 3.0 Hubs, such as Home Assistant, allowing you to visualise your real-time current data. The Energy Clamp is currently compatible with Home Assistant Zigbee 3.0 Hub and the team is working hard to add a wider variety of compatible Zigbee 3.0 Hubs very soon.
Once you have completed the installation of your clamp and the LED has stopped flashing, your real-time current data will start appearing in your Home Assistant dashboard. This should only take a few seconds.
Activation and Home Assistant integration
The Energy Clamp is simple and easy to install without the need for an engineer visit. Simply follow the steps in our Installation guide here.
If the pairing between Home Assistant and your new clamp fails, don’t worry. You can reset your clamp and try again. Simply use a little pin (one that you would use to access your SIM card on your smart phone) or a needle and press the button next to the LED light. Hold it pressed for 10 seconds.
Once you have completed the installation of your clamp and the LED has stopped flashing, your real-time current data will start appearing in your Home Assistant dashboard. This should only take a few seconds.
The Energy Clamp can only be attached to single conductor, insulated wires, such as your electricity meter. Please note that the Energy Clamp must not be used to measure current for regular power cables with a 13A plug.
