Vacancies

Chameleon Technology is seeking a Quality Engineer to support its continued growth and development. Working as part of the expanding engineering team in Harrogate, you will play a key role in the production and validation of Chameleon’s smart energy products, which display real-time energy usage from smart meters.

You will have experience of, and be conversant in the different regulation standards e.g. ISO 9001, 14001 and ideally 27001, and ensure that they operate as intended.

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented engineer to be involved in the verification systems supporting Quality Control and Assurance at Chameleon Technology.

The role will assist the Engineers, Project Managers and Quality Control Manager on a variety of tasks including:

  • Handling customer reported QA issues
  • IQC inspection & recording, drafting reports, analysis of product
  • Supporting SQE for components purchased by Chameleon
  • Drafting & reviewing operating procedures
  • Reviewing and informing regarding yield performance
  • Tracking KPIs and maintaining the product and process improvements log
  • Compiling reports on Integrated Management Measurement indices
  • 1st & 2nd party auditing
  • Executing training and development
  • Reporting issues and results and working to identify possible root causes
  • Ensuring results of quality issues are addressed and corrected

About You

The ideal candidate will have the following skills, experience and attributes: –

  • An HNC in Quality or another relevant subject
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings
  • Strong Microsoft skills, especially Excel and Word
  • Very good oral and written communications skills
  • Strong organisational and problem solving skills
  • Numerically literate
  • Ability to work closely with engineers to identify potential issues affecting quality control and fault tolerance.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changes in priorities
  • Comfortable in a customer-focused environment
  • Ability to meet deadlines and multi-task
  • Team player

Desirable skills and experience include: –

  • Experience in quality assurance and high-volume manufacturing
  • Validation of manufactured product to hardware design specifications

Chameleon Technology is recruiting an Embedded Development Engineer. Working as part of our expanding engineering team in our office in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, the successful applicant will play a key role in the development and manufacture of our Smart Energy Products.

The Role

You will be an experienced Hardware Engineer who’s also comfortable with development of software or a Software Engineer with knowledge of hardware development. You will ideally have previous experience in high volume manufacturing of electronics products. Occasional travel to our Far East manufacturing facility will be required to introduce new automation tools.

You will contribute to the design and development of our smart energy products with particular responsibility for DfM aspects of the product.

About You

The ideal candidate will have the following skills, experience and attributes:-

  • An honours degree in an industry related subject
  • Experience of Electronic Circuit Design for Microcontrollers/Pics
  • Experience of software development in one of C, C#, or Python
  • Knowledge of wireless technologies e.g. Wi-Fi, ZigBee, Bluetooth
  • Experience in high-end electronics testing and debugging in development and production environment
  • A structured approach to design and verification
  • Highly organised and methodical with excellent attention to detail
  • Very good communications skills – ideally including experience of interfacing with manufacturing sites
  • Be able to respond efficiently to manufacturing site issues and work towards ensuring systems operate in a highly effective manner
  • Experience of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • A team player who relishes a challenge and works effectively to deadlines

Desirable skills and experience include:-

  • Experience of hardware development related to Design for Manufacturing
  • Design and development of automated manufacturing systems
  • Knowledge and/use of MS-SQL or general database exposure as related to product manufacturing
  • Experience of software development for embedded products
  • Understanding of networks
  • Understanding of mechanical design concepts related to manufacturing environments

Our offices

Chameleon Technology is based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire but our global team includes offices in Hong Kong and Sydney. Our head office is in the beautiful spa town of Harrogate, near the North Yorkshire countryside and Yorkshire Dales. We are based in the Hornbeam Park business estate, which has modern facilities and easy access via car, train or bus. Central Harrogate is only moments away and the A1 and M1 provide easy access north and south. There are many picturesque villages and towns nearby, and Leeds and York and also within easy reach.

Housing

Harrogate has a wealth of different housing styles including smart flats, luxury apartments, good-sized family homes (semis and detached), new build estates, Georgian terraces and grand homes and mansions. The villages on the outskirts also offer country cottages, barn conversions, listed properties and further new-build estates. With the towns of Ripon and Wetherby and the cities of Leeds and York within commuting distance, the choice of styles is almost limitless.

Sport

In addition to hosting the Grand Depart of the 2014 Tour de France and the World Cycling Championships in 2019, there is sport in abundance in Yorkshire, with the chance to follow firstclass football, cricket and rugby and attend race meets at some of the country’s finest racecourses at York and Wetherby. Culture

The county is home to a large proportion of the UK’s top museums, galleries and historic houses. In fact, the North York Moors boasts no fewer than 3,000 listed buildings. More than 70 professional theatre companies are based in Yorkshire, including the West Yorkshire Playhouse in central Leeds. Both the Yorkshire Sculpture Park at West Bretton and The Hepworth gallery in Wakefield are close by, as is the historic town of York. Leeds has a vibrant music scene and a huge variety of venues for bands from small bars and clubs to the First Direct Arena.

Shopping and dining out

Yorkshire also offers plenty of cosmopolitan shopping and elegant restaurants. The stylish and recently expanded Victoria Centre in Leeds features John Lewis, Harvey Nichols, and many brands not yet seen outside London. Designer boutiques feature among York’s cobbled streets and Harrogate boasts many antique shops around the  Montpellier Quarter. There are also several large shopping centres and designer outlets in the area. Enjoy world-class restaurants in Leeds, Betty’s famous tea shop in Harrogate and good honest Yorkshire pubs throughout the county.

Countryside

Stray just a few miles from the cosmopolitan urban centres and you’re surrounded by dramatic countryside. North Yorkshire is one of the most rural counties in the country, with its rustic villages and fabulous scenery unaffected by time. And, with two beautiful national parks on the doorstep, the region defines the perfect combination of work-life balance.
