Chameleon Technology is delighted to announce the progression of its HTC-Up project with additional funding from the UK government’s Green Home Finance Accelerator programme.

The project is one of 12 awarded by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero to progress to pilot phase after successfully completing its proof of concept stage. The HTC-Up initiative forms part of the Green Home Finance Accelerator programme, which aims to support new ways of giving families access to funding to improve their home’s energy efficiency.

The HTC-Up project, in collaboration with NatWest and Furbnow, is designed to provide domestic homeowners and landlords with accurate data on home energy efficiency, coupled with access to bespoke green loans and cash-back rewards to help them improve their efficiency with low-carbon technology retrofitting.

The six-figured funding will be used to set up pilot-phase initiatives with recruited volunteers to put the HTC algorithm and funding options to the test.

Tom Moore, Head of Innovation Programmes for Chameleon Technology, says of phase two: “We are excited to see the impact of our end-to-end home energy efficiency, retrofitting and finance project for consumers, in partnership with NatWest and Furbnow. By giving homeowners the confidence that these recommended efficiency upgrades – alongside focused financial support – will lead to reduced home heat loss, we’re confident that our HTC algorithm will open a new route for low-carbon upgrades. The technologies and products being trialled will become a significant contributor to meeting goals to upgrade the existing UK housing stock to participate in the flexible, renewable energy markets of the future.”

Katherine Annand, Climate Lead for Retail Banking, NatWest Group, adds: “NatWest are delighted to be working with Chameleon Technology as part of the Green Home Finance Accelerator. We look forward to seeing the end-to-end journey in action by linking smart meter technology to our mortgage customers to our Home Energy Hub, which includes an in-home energy assessment, a choice of retrofit installation options and partner referrals, grant information and financing options. This pilot supports our aim to be a leading bank in the fight against climate change, and our ambition to have 50% EPC A-C rated properties across our residential mortgage portfolio by 2030.”

Becky Lane, Co-founder & CEO at Furbnow, concludes: “Bringing together finance, monitoring and a slick home energy efficiency service between NatWest, Chameleon Technology and Furbnow, HTC-Up has all the building blocks to accelerate domestic retrofit in the UK. We’re eagerly awaiting the launch of the trial to understand how our joint proposition helps homeowners through the retrofit journey. Our mission at Furbnow is to help every home get to Net Zero, without the hassle – this project will demonstrate how we can eliminate the hassle with financing and evidencing the impact.”
