Chameleon launches IHD replacement service to keep every home smart

Chameleon Technology has today launched a replacement In-Home Display (IHD) service in support of the continuing smart meter rollout

This service supports the continued success of the smart meter rollout by ensuring every consumer with a smart meter has access to their real-time energy consumption via an in-home display (IHD). It allows consumers to replace a missing, broken, or faulty and out of warranty device quickly and simply.

The service includes a direct fulfilment and remote pairing solution, which avoids the complication and expense of an engineer’s home visit. Consumers are now able to purchase the latest design, Wi-Fi enabled, ivie Bud IHD directly from ivie.co.uk. Chameleon is offering a dedicated link to all energy retailers so they can efficiently refer qualifying customers to the replacement service.

Smart in-home displays allow millions to be more energy efficient

Smart meters and IHDs have already given millions of consumers the ability to understand and engage with their energy consumption, make informed choices about energy efficiency and save money on their bills. But with the rollout now reaching over 11.5 million homes, an inevitable cycle of lost or damaged devices has developed.

Households without an IHD to accompany their smart meter are unable to engage with their home energy consumption. Chameleon’s replacement IHD service will allow simple, helpful and engaging energy data to be extended to those consumers with a smart meter but no IHD.

The ivie Bud in-home display is the ideal replacement IHD

The ivie Bud is the latest design, Wi-Fi enabled, in-home display on the market. It includes all the features of a Chameleon IHD including a simple, easy to navigate touchscreen, personalised budget setting and pre-payment options. The ivie Bud works with any energy supplier and can be ordered, installed and activated remotely by the user – no need for an engineer’s visit.

The ivie Bud is compatible with most SMETS1 and SMETS2 smart meters that have been enrolled and adopted into the DCC. The “compatibility checker” available before checkout means users can instantly see if their smart meter is compatible. This check confirms whether the home’s smart meter is enrolled with the DCC and highlights smart meters outside of this as “incompatible.”
